Characteristics: A shrub covered in glandous hairs which make it sticky to the touch. It has the leaves divided into leaflets, from three to five, with clearly dentate margins. The flowers are large, yellow with the largest petal (vexillum) striped red. The calyx is made of relatively wide, lanceolate sepals. The leaf-stalk carrying the flower has a small awn. It is an endemic species of the mountains of Mallorca. It bears a very close relationship with Ononis crispa, an endemism of Menorca and Cabrera, this latter has divided sepals and the flowers are piled up in a compact inflorescence at the top of the stems. It is also very close to Ononis natrix subsp. hispanica, which has smaller, less rigid leaves than this one. It flowers from spring to summer.
