Habitats: Fir forest and beech forest. Non-saline wetlands (intermittent watercourses, streams, artesian wells, ditches). Small shady banks or slopes. Cool and humid woodlands and rocky areas.

Characteristics: Robust fern with large fronds. Petiole short, bearing numerous lanceolate, brown-coloured scales concentrated at its base. Blade light green, divided from the base into symmetrical segments, themselves deeply divided into pinnules. Pinnules obtuse, with dentate margins, especially in the upper part. Sori located on the middle to basal part of the lower surface of the fronds, which are lobed, gently curving to a narrow apex, and with sori more clustered towards the blade tip. Sori covered by a kidney-shaped indusium. Blade and indusium lack glands.
